• About the Department

     

    The Department of Archeology of Bu-Ali Sina University was established in 1996 at associate's level after an agreement between the university and the National Organization of Cultural Heritage and with regards to the special circumstance of Hamedan from the point of view of the large number of historical and ancient sites and the need for research in line with the guidelines of tourism development in the form of national development programs. In 1998 the department officially admitted students after the completion of its faculty members that included Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Zare'I, Dr. Yaghoub Mohammadifar, Dr. Abbas Motarjem and Dr. Teimour Ghaderi.

    After Dr. Kazem Mollazade and Dr. Maryam Mohammadi joined the department in 2004, the department started admitting students at B.A level.

    In 2009, in line with the development of postgraduate education and considering that the department possessed the scientific prerequisites, agreement was reached for the establishment of M.A courses in 3 subfields of pre-historic, historic and Islamic periods. Also in 2011 considering the minimum requirements of one faculty member with the rank of associate professor and 5 faculty members with the rank of assistant professor with more than 5 years of working experience, PhD. level was established for all three subfield. Currently this department possesses one professor, three associate professors and two assistant professors and admits students at the levels of B.A, M.A and PhD. in three subfields of pre-historic, historic and Islamic periods. It must be noted that two classes of PhD. students have graduated successfully so far.

     

    Some of the activities of the Department of Archeology of Bu-Ali Sina University:

    • Research and educational excavation in the site of Hamedan's Moush Tape for four seasons in which the remains of a Median temple were found;
    • Research excavation in Hamedan's Tape Pisa from the age of Old Mafraq for three seasons from 2004 to 2008;
    • Research and rescue excavation in the site of Yalfan located in the site of the Yalfan Dam for one season in 2004;
    • Research and rescue excavation in the winter quarter hill of Kurdistan's Chehel Amiran in the city of Talvar for three seasons in 2010, 2013 and 2014;
    • Research and rescue excavation in Kurdistan's Tape Jelo Asiab in the city of Talvar for one season in 2010;
    • Research and rescue excavation in the hills of Lalar, Kapargeh, Nazleh, and Qal'e Siram- Shah in the site of Seimarreh Dam in Ilam and Lorestan.;
    • Research and rescue excavation in the barrel cemeteries of Zaribar in Marivan for one season in 2009;
    • Joint International excavation in the sites of Sheikhi-Abad, Kurtavij and Tape Jani from the New Stone Age for two seasons in cooperation with England's UCL and Reading universities.

    Furthermore, more than 20 seasons of field survey and library and theoretical research in cooperation with different organizations have been carried out in Zanjan, Hamedan, Kurdestan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
